What size should a Pinterest pin be?
1000×1500 pixels — a 2:3 ratio.
That is the format Pinterest recommends for standard Pins: it fills the vertical feed without cropping. Square (1:1) is supported but takes less feed space. Pins taller than about 1000×2100 (1:2.1) get cropped at the bottom in the feed. Video works best at 1000×1500 (2:3) or 1080×1920 (9:16), six to fifteen seconds, MP4 or MOV.

Does 2:3 outperform square?
Vertical 2:3 Pins see about +45% impressions and +22% clicks versus 1:1 in published comparisons.
Taller Pins claim more column height in the feed. Most browsing is mobile, where vertical fills the screen. Use 2:3 as the default for both stills and most organic video.

How does the Pinterest algorithm work?
Four signals: pin quality, pinner quality, domain quality, and relevance.
Pin quality is saves, outbound clicks, close-ups and watch time over months — not a first-day spike. Pinner quality is the account: regularity, board coherence, subject fit. Domain quality is how often people pin from your site and how long they stay after the click. Relevance is keywords across title, description, alt text, board name, board description, text in the image, and the destination page.

How many pins per day should you publish?
Ten to fifteen Pins a day, spread across the month — not batched dumps.
Volume only helps when compositions vary. One template filled forty times reads as duplicates and gets suppressed. Fill each board toward about twenty Pins before expecting it to rank. Track save rate by composition; drop what underperforms and scale what clears the industry floor above.

How big is Pinterest now?
631 million monthly active users in Q1 2026 — up 11% year over year.
Roughly a billion clips are watched on the platform daily. About 80% of the audience is outside the United States. CEO Bill Ready has publicly put monthly searches on the order of 80 billion — covered by eMarketer as his comment, not as an official Pinterest methodology page.
